Jae-Hyuck Cho
Pianist / Organist
[email protected]
Acclaimed pianist/organist Jae-Hyuck Cho is one of the most active concert artists in South Korea. Whether as a soloist in recital, a star performing alongside large orchestras, initiating new concert formats and series, or appearing as a regular guest on various broadcasts, Cho is considered to be an important musical mediator. He has been described as ‘a musician who is nearing perfection with an extraordinary breadth of expression, flawless technique, composition, sensitivity, intelligence, insightful and detailed playing without exaggeration.’
Since making his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 1993 as the winner of the Pro Piano New York Recital Series Auditions, Cho has been very active as a performing artist making appearances worldwide. He has worked with numerous orchestras including Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo. He recently made his UK debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3 at Cadogan Hall.
Born in South Korea, he began studying piano at the age of five. Cho soon moved to New York, where he continued his education at the Manhattan School of Music and eventually graduated from the Juilliard School. At the same time, he began studying the organ. Today he is one of the few musicians who have mastered both the piano and the organ equally and chosen them as their primary instruments.
His discography includes Beethoven Piano Sonatas and an album of Beethoven and Liszt’s Piano Concertos Nos.1 with Adrien Perruchon and Royal Scottish National Orchestra on SONY Classical, as well as an organ album recorded at la Madeleine, Paris and Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto Nos. 2 and 3 with Hans Graf and the Russian National Orchestra on the label Evidence. His latest release of Chopin’s Ballades and Sonata No.3 on Orchid Classics is getting much attention, including being featured as Gramophone’s Video of the Day. Cho’s upcoming recording of Mozart piano concertos with Hans Graf and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is due for release in 2024.
Cho’s celebrated communication skills on stage opened doors for opportunities to expand his musical endeavours. He has been the guest artist for 252 episodes of With Piano, a special corner of Family Music on KBS Classic FM Radio, where he shared commentaries and gave performances on a live radio broadcast. He has been the lecturer for Seoul Arts Center’s signature concert series The 11 O’Clock Concert, and continues to serve the roll as the communicator of classical music to the audience.
